The Lamarck's Angelfish (Genicanthus lamarck), also known as the Freckled Angelfish, is a hardy and highly sought-after marine species featuring a striking silvery-white body marked with horizontal, ink-black stripes and a delicate speckling of dark freckles on its forehead. Belonging to the unique Genicanthus genus, it is a pelagic open-water swimmer that exhibits subtle sexual dimorphism—females display a bold black stripe running through the length of their tail fin, while males feature a yellow spot on the forehead and entirely white tail borders.
Tank Requirements
Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons or larger; as a fast, continuous open-water swimmer, it demands a long tank footprint with ample horizontal room to thrive.
Aquarium Decor: Open upper and middle swimming channels paired with sturdy live rock structures and deep caves where it can retreat when threatened.
Temperature: 72°F – 78°F (22°C – 26°C).
Salinity (Specific Gravity): 1.020 – 1.025.

Care and Feeding
Diet: Omnivorous planktivore; feeds directly from the water column rather than picking at rocks, requiring multiple daily feedings of vitamin-enriched mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped krill, and high-quality pellet foods.
Reef Safe Rating: Reef safe; because its natural diet consists entirely of zooplankton suspended in the water, it is completely safe to keep alongside delicate stony corals, soft corals, and clam mantles.
