The Mini Maxi Anemone (Stichodactyla tapetum), also known as the Maxi Mini Carpet Anemone, is a small, ultra-hardy motile invertebrate featuring a heavily textured, adhesive disc covered in tiny, bead-like tentacles. Highly prized in reef aquariums for its incredible variety of intense, neon color configurations, it stays compact and rarely wanders, making it an excellent, low-risk choice for nano tanks and beginner reefers.
Tank Requirements
Lighting: Moderate to high (50–200 PAR); brighter lighting dramatically intensifies its fluorescent colors and metallic pigments.
Water Flow: Moderate; prefers a steady, indirect current to help clear away waste without blowing its disc loose from the rockwork.
Temperature: 72°F – 78°F (22°C – 26°C).
Salinity (Specific Gravity): 1.023 – 1.025.
pH Range: 8.1 – 8.4.
Care and Feeding
Placement: Bottom to mid-sections of the aquarium, where it will quickly plant its foot into a deep rock crevice or along the border where rock meets the sandbed.
Diet: Photosynthetic via zooxanthellae, but possesses a very strong feeding response and grows rapidly when spot-fed weekly with mysis shrimp or small pieces of chopped seafood.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive; it possesses a very sticky, potent sting that can easily kill nearby corals, though multiple Mini Maxis can be placed safely touching one another.
