The Pintail Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus isosceles), also known as the Lanceolate Fairy Wrasse, is an elite, extraordinarily vibrant marine species prized for its unique, lance-shaped caudal fin that tapers to a distinct central point. Males display a breathtaking color scheme featuring a bright pinkish-orange body accented by a glowing yellow dorsal fin, electric-blue trim along the fins, and a prominent black spot at the upper tail base. Tank Requirements
Minimum Tank Size: 55 to 70 gallons or larger; as an energetic, continuous swimmer, it requires ample horizontal distance to stay healthy and stress-free.
Aquarium Decor: Intricate configurations of live rock structured with open swimming lanes alongside numerous arches and caves; it requires deep rock crevices to escape into when startled and to spin its protective mucus sleeping cocoon at night.
Temperature: 72°F – 78°F (22°C – 26°C).
Salinity (Specific Gravity): 1.020 – 1.025.
pH Range: 8.1 – 8.4.
Care and Feeding
Diet: Carnivorous planktivore; feeds actively out of the open water column. It has a high metabolism and requires multiple small daily feedings of vitamin-enriched mysis shrimp, frozen copepods, calanus, rotifers, and premium mini pellets or flakes to maintain its brilliant metallic colors.
Reef Safe Rating: Reef safe; it is completely harmless toward small polyp stony (SPS) corals, large polyp stony (LPS) corals, soft corals, and ornamental clams, and it will not bother small shrimp or crabs.
Temperament: Peaceful; highly docile and communal, making it an excellent companion for other peaceful community fish. However, mature adult males can become highly territorial toward closely related fairy wrasse species if they are added after them, meaning it should ideally be introduced simultaneously with or before other wrasses.
