The Rainbow Lobophyllia Coral (Lobophyllia sp.), commonly referred to as a Rainbow Lobo or Brain Coral, is an exceptionally prized large polyp stony (LPS) coral featuring thick, fleshy lobes patterned with an intense, alternating combination of neon green, fiery orange, and yellow banding. Tank Requirements
Lighting: Moderate (50–150 PAR); stable, medium lighting is ideal, as excessively high PAR can cause its vibrant rainbow pigments to recede and bleach.
Water Flow: Low to moderate; requires a gentle, indirect current to help clear away mucus layers and organic debris without forcing its fleshy tissue to scrape against its sharp internal skeleton.
Temperature: 72°F – 78°F (22°C – 26°C).
Salinity (Specific Gravity): 1.023 – 1.025.
pH Range: 8.1 – 8.4.
Care and Feeding
Placement: Bottom of the aquarium, ideally resting on a flat, low-lying rock structure or nestled directly into the sandbed with enough clearance to prevent shifting sand from irritating its tissue.
Diet: Photosynthetic via zooxanthellae, but exhibits a massive feeding response at night and grows significantly faster when weekly spot-fed meaty foods like mysis shrimp or high-grade LPS pellets.
