The Red Alveopora Coral (Alveopora sp.), commonly called the Micro Flower Pot Coral, is a beautiful and delicate large polyp stony (LPS) coral featuring column-like polyps that extend outward and terminate in distinct 12-tipped, star-shaped heads. Frequently confused with Goniopora (which has 24 polyp tips), this red morph is highly sought after for introducing dramatic, rich crimson color and gentle motion to a reef tank, thriving best in highly stable systems with controlled nutrient levels.
Tank Requirements
Lighting: Low to moderate (50–120 PAR); prefers subtle, indirect lighting, as intense illumination will cause the polyps to permanently retract and quickly bleach.
Water Flow: Low to moderate; requires a gentle, indirect current that lets the stalks sway smoothly without bowing them flat or tearing them against their fragile skeleton.
Temperature: 72°F – 78°F (22°C – 26°C).
Salinity (Specific Gravity): 1.023 – 1.025.
pH Range: 8.1 – 8.4.
