The Springer's Damselfish (Chrysiptera springeri), also widely known as the Blue Sapphire Damselfish or Springer's Demoiselle, is a striking and highly valuable marine fish featuring an intense, solid neon-sapphire blue body accented by subtle dark markings around its face. Unlike many notorious members of the damselfish family, this compact species is celebrated for its manageable temperament. It is highly prized by reef keepers not just for its rich color, but as an elite utility fish that actively hunts down flatworms and small pests within the rockwork.
Tank Requirements
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons or larger; its small size makes it an excellent fit for nano reefs, though more space helps reduce its minor territorial defensive traits.
Aquarium Decor: Intricate arrangements of live rock forming small caves, crevices, and branching structures where it can establish a home base and sleep safely at night.
Temperature: 72°F – 78°F (22°C – 26°C).
Salinity (Specific Gravity): 1.020 – 1.025.

Care and Feeding
Diet: Omnivore; an exceptionally easy and enthusiastic feeder that eagerly accepts high-quality marine pellets, flake foods, frozen mysis, and enriched brine shrimp. It will naturally supplement its diet by hunting for pest flatworms (like red planaria) on the rockwork.
Reef Safe Rating: Reef safe; it is completely harmless toward small polyp stony (SPS) corals, large polyp stony (LPS) corals, soft corals, and mobile invertebrates.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive; it is one of the most peaceful damselfish species available. While it will aggressively defend its chosen rock cave against intruders or similar small blue fish, it generally ignores unrelated open-water swimmers and makes a great reef citizen.
